Dear Denver Seminary Community,
The Carey S. Thomas Library, located in the Lewan Learning Resource Center at the Littleton Campus of Denver Seminary, is excited to announce a library renovation project that will occur during the 2022 Summer session. Renovation objectives include greater access to library staff and physical collections with more flexibility in the use of library space. During this season of construction and change, library access will be impacted. We hope to minimize this impact through regular communication and service options. For questions or concerns, please contact the library at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303.762.6962.
Please note that the Writing Center services will continue without disruption through the spring semester.
April 4 – 22, 2022: New Shelving Layout and Easter Holiday
In preparation for the renovation, the seminary has hired a professional service provider who specializes in library space management. The new shelving layout will move a majority of books and journals to be centrally located within the library where they will be easier to navigate and closer to study spaces. In addition, floor shelving in the Grounds Reading Room will be removed to allow optional space for special events, group projects, and quiet study. The library will remain open throughout this phase. However, collection browsing will not be permitted due to safety concerns while the collection is being moved. To better serve patrons during this time, we are happy to provide the following service option:
With browsing restricted, requests for items to be retrieved and checked out will be made at the circulation desk. Patrons will have the option to receive item retrieval assistance upon entering the library or by submitting hold requests through the library online catalog. More information including instructions will be available from the library website in March.
Classrooms have been reserved during weekdays to serve as dedicated quiet spaces where circulating and non-circulating books may be taken. Patrons will be asked to check-out items taken from the library and returned at one of the book drops. More information on room assignments will be provided in future announcements.
Noise Reducing Earmuffs will be available for check-out for 4 hours with conference rooms for 2 hours.
The library will be closed April 15 – 17 in observance of Easter from Good Friday through Easter Sunday.
April 25 – May 13, 2022: Library Fully Open
In anticipation of the final weeks of the semester, the library will be open and available for browsing April 25 – May 13. We recognize this is a critical period at the end of the semester where students need access to library resources and quiet study spaces. Silent study signs will be placed at the entrance of the library. Noise reducing earmuffs will be available for checked out from the circulation desk.
Starting May 16, 2022: Library Closure and Circulation Desk Move
Construction is scheduled to begin the week after Commencement, May 14th. During this period, the library will be closed to the public. Circulation services, computer stations, and a Print/Scan/Copy machine will be located in the Game Room behind Wild Goose Coffee in the Student Center. From this temporary library space patrons can request and pick up items, interact with library staff, use computer stations to write papers and search the online catalog, and borrow noise reducing earmuffs. We also anticipate reserving classrooms for quiet study and will share the room schedule in future announcements.
We will continue to keep you informed of the timeline and impact of the renovation through regular communication. Again, please reach out to the library with questions or concerns (email@example.com or 303.762.6962).
